Big Coin Weigh In competition - Friday 4th May 2007
Amherst School
Mrs Moore invited Maire Tyrrell and me to attend Friday 4th May Morning Assembly as they had been doing a fund raiser for the School in Sri Lanka.
I was intrigued!
Something jangly had been happening at Amherst school through the week!
The children were having a competition to see which class could produce the heaviest container of small change! What an original idea .. The children were encouraged to search out all the small change they had at home, and I am sure there was a bit of emptying Mum and Dads pockets too, not to mention diving down the back of the Sofa for a bit of silver!
Were we in for a treat!
Well, we arrived for Assembly to see the WHOLE school sitting expectantly waiting for the weigh-in. There was a real feel of excitement in the air and that was just me!
Lots of Twinkle Toes!
First we were treated to a lovely play about Princess Twinkle Toes performed by the Infants it was a delight and they had all worked so hard to learn their lines and master their dance moves ..in fact some of them are budding Dancers I am sure we particularly liked the Tango moves! And Maire liked the red sports cars the children had made to zoom off in!
After a prayer it was time for Mrs Rickard to start to weigh each classs contributions. The amounts from each class were amazing everyone had made a huge effort.
Mrs Rickard the Banker!
The STAGGERING total was 196 ½ kilos in weight . WOW that is....... MASSIVE
And I guess they will need to get Securicor to come and take the bags away there will be enough to start a bank!!
Money.........money...........money and MORE money!
Miss Travers Class E had amassed an impressive 29 kilos and they were the winners of the competition. We provided Miss Travers with vouchers for The Guernsey Press Shop to the tune of £50.
Miss Travers & Mrs Moore
We would like them to spend it on something to benefit the class as a whole.
They should be very proud of themselves for winning however the WHOLE school entered into this original idea and they too should give themselves a pat on the back.
We wait with bated breath to find out the amount raised. Its so exciting!
Thank you Amherst you have very BIG Hearts! xx
